I am on IUI cycle #3 and seem to have problems absorbing the follistim. I am taking 600 IUs per day and it take a while for it to bring my blood levels up and the have never reached 400. I'm thinking the fat is holding on to the injections and that is making it harder for it to reach my blood stream.

Yes, the fat cellls do absorp the meds. I underwent IVF #1 in 3/04 and was cancelled b/c my RE said that I was on the next to the highest med concentration and my fat cells took too much of my meds. I can't even start again until I lose about 50 lbs. I'm sorry but that is what was explained to me. Hopefully, yours is not the same thing.

Nursing, the same thing happened to me on injections, though I was stimming for IUI and not IVF. It is a really sad and frustrating situation. Best of luck to both of you!

Well my RE is good with not making me feel bad about it. He did up my meds from the initial dose of 150 to 400 in the 1st cycle but the 2nd cycle i went up to 600 but that did seem to work on my ovaries. I got 3 follicles over 18 in size. I am taking 600 again this time around (IUI cycle #3). I was thinking of putting a warm cloth over the injection site to help the blood flow to the area.

Hi! I just did my 5th IVF (bfn) but had the best cycle ever. I was on 600 units of menopur. In earlier cycles, I only retrieved three eggs for transfer. This past September cycle, I was on the same dosage of menopur, but my doctor had me take 300 units in the am and then the other 300 units in the pm. I produced (drumroll please, lol) 27 eggs, which for me (poor responder, poor absorption rate) was my best cycle ever, quantity and quality! This cycle was also a big fat negative, but I have 10 frozen! I've never had any to freeze before! Please ask your doctors about splitting your injections into the am and pm, it worked for me! I did IVF, not IUI, and I don't know how many follicles they like for IUI, but there are things they can do by manipulating your dosage! Good luck!

WOW!!!!!!!!!!! That is great. :blowhorn: I think I will start doing that too....If I split the dose and give it at the same time each day in the AM and PM then it will have more time to absorb! Great idea! :brightide I'm going to try that now!

I tried it...it worked....I have been splitting the dose in the morning and the evening. My levels today were over 700 they have never gotten above 350 before now. I trigger tonight and have my 3rd IUI on Friday. I have 4 follies this time too. onlyhad 1 the 1st time and 3 the 2nd time. I hope this is the one. 2 other ladies found out they are having twins this week. I hope those good vibes help us all.

That's great that it worked! I'm gearing up for a frozen embryo transfer in January, trying to lose some weight before then. I've been on my own diet for a week, slim fast for breakfast and sometimes lunch, and a healthy dinner, but the scale hasn't budged. I remember being able to lose the weight more easily when I was younger, it sucks getting old, lol. This is depressing, because I started in earnest on Monday, and lost nothing. Not even that burst of water weight you get in the beginning. My AF is due around the 23rd, so maybe I'm retaining water? I don't know... Good luck to you, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for ya!

This was awesome information! I just had my ET done yesterday. This is my first IVF cycle and I was started on 300 units of repronex, then at the 5 day scan, my Re upped me to 450 units because my levels were rising too slowly. I only ended up with 4 mature eggs, although the u/s showed more than 10 at a good size. We were very disappointed, but we did put back 1 so-so embryo and 1 excellent 8-cell yesterday. So all hope is not lost. If this cycle ends up in a BFN, I'm taking 2-3 months off to lose some weight, get into some acupuncture, then I'll definitely ask about splitting the dosage. Good to know!
good luck!!
