Newbie Here/Gastric Bypass

Hello, just wondering if anyone else was in the same boat as me. I don't even know if this is the right board, but I thought I would start here. I am a post-op gastric bypass patient. My husband and I are currently TTC # 1

My husband has some fertility issues (low sperm count, motility issues, etc.)

I am waiting on my blood work to see if everything is okay on my end. I have since developed osteoporosis from the gastric bypass. Well, I should say that it was from me not taking my calcium like I should have so I really cannot blame the surgery as it was my fault.

Anyone in a similar situation?

Julie

I am 4 years post op open roux n y. I had my surgery at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, GA when my husband was stationed in Savannah, GA. He''s a recruiter now and we're stationed in Kalispell, MT. I started at 245 and am currently about 155-160 (I'm 5'8") My husband and I are also ttc #1 and are currently in a 2ww from our 4th IUI. We have some minor MF issues as well as anovulation on my part. I've had no post operative complications, and my hgbA1c is currently at 5.5, so my physician is pretty confident that I can safely carry a child without health risks. I'm a firefighter/emt at one of my jobs and a nurse at the other. I wish you well in your ttc journey and hope that your stay here on the IF boards is short.

Blessed Be
Kelcey

I had my Lap RNY on July 25, 2003. I was 447 lbs and lost 135 lbs and have gained back 25 lbs. I'm still working on the weight thing! We have been ttc for 1.5 years. I'm 42 now will be 43 in December. I am in my 2nd IUI cycle now with injectables. Hope it goes well for you. Here's wishing you both lots of baby dust!

Hi There, I also had gastric bypass in March of 2001. I am currently in the IVF process due to late O. DH also has MFI issues (low count/motility). My RE and OB/GYN say that all should be okay as long as I keep the b-12, iron, and prenatals in my system.

Blessings,
SHINE

Hi i had another filed IUI cycle...that's my 3rd one. All my numbers were good and I had 4 follies this time but no baby. We go on Friday to talk about IVF. I thinkit will be in January and this is it for me. the money is killing me and i guess i too old. I still hope that God blesses us with a baby though. What is happening with your IVF? I really don't know what to expect with this.

Hey there Quita,
Our journey has been crazy. I actually had a tubal reversal surgery last year..thought that was all we needed to do to get pregnant..YEAH RIGHT! We did 6 months of ttc naturally before going to the OB/GYN to see what the problem was..That's when he sent us to our RE who did the IUI's...all bfn..so here we are doing IVF.

I did 5 weeks of birth control pills then I started Lupron while waiting for AF. Nov 24 I started stimming with 360 iu of Follistim and 75 of menopur along with 10 iu Lupron. I have been doing 3 shots per day for 11 days..I did my trigger shot tonight (dh did it) and I will have Egg Retrieval on Thursday. It's been a long road...but one that I hope is about to have a happy ending!!

I am happy to be here to hold your hand if you need me...

Shine, since I am a nurse (at one of my jobs) I worked at Memorial and at St. Joseph's in Savannah and I always found Dr. Blohm to be an amazing and VERY knowledgable physician. I think you're in GREAT hands. Best of Luck to you!!

Hello*!!! I am board hopping here and found this post. I had Open RNY in March 2002, I then had my gall bladder removed in Feb 2003, then a anchor cut tummy tuck in June 2004. I have been good since then and haven't had anymore surgery. I started out at 320lbs, got down to my lowest at 155, but now back up a bit. I am trying to take off 15-20lbs, but it is good to know that I am in the normal catagory now of dieters.

I am currently TTC naturally with my new hubby. I did try for 6 years with my EX so I am no stranger to the TTC area.

Good Luck to all those that are ttc*!!!!

we need to be on the weight loss boat together. I've got about 15-20 lbs that I'd like to lose. I started today with my slim-fast..and so far, I've been pretty dedicated..(thank god for stackers). I'm at about 175 right now, but my lowest was only about 157 (and that wasn't for very long). I'm 5'8" and really broad shouldered and stocky, so I'm not all fat, but I'd still like to make my 28x34's not quite so snug again...LOL

Your guys are funny...I'd like to join the weight loss boat too! What are stackers? I saw my RE yesterday and we are going to start IVF treatment on the 23rd of this month. I will be doing something called antagonistic therapy that is shorter than the standard lupron cycle but yield a few more eggs.

Stackers are an over the counter stimulant basically. I wouldn't suggest taking them while ttc though..not sure of the effects on a developing embryo, but I'm sure it wouldn't be great. We're on a ttc break until February, s I don't mind risking it for now...LOL

I'm already not happy with the new IVF nurse. She acts like she does not want to be bothered. This process costs WAY TOO MUCH MONEY for there to be attitudes! My REs office only has one IVF nurse and she only does one IVF orientation a day and is taking off time now. My IVF cycle starts Monday and i Don't have the meds yet and the nurse has not scheduled my orientation until next week AFTER I start the meds (that I don't have yet) AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGH! :fuming:

Thanks for letting me get that out. I am not happy with this...the IUI side of the practice is very nice and understanding. Not so with IVF people.

Hello*!!! oh I am sorry that she is being so rude. You are right it costs way too much to have an attitudenwith you. Is there an office manager that you can speak with to get your meds at least???

The mail order pharmacy worked it all out..i got some today and the rest is coming tomorrow. I still have to work with this nurse as she is the only IVF nurse they have. My orientation is Tuesday at 11 am but I'm suppose to start some meds on Monday but i don't know which ones.

Hi ladies for some reason I'm just down today...maybe because I went to my RE today and he sent me home without doing an u/s and called later and told me to go back in tomorrow for an u/s...why didn't he just do it today!!!
I started an IVF cycle a week ago with pills you take the 1st week that are supposed to make AF come. Well no AF and the pulls are gone. I was supposed to start the injections now but no AF. He did a beta and some other b/w today then called and said he needs to see my ovaries so i have to go all the way back in the office tomorrow! I guess i was secretly hoping that i got a miracle and was pregnant on my own but no such luck. I just started spotting so onward.....Anybody else experience anything like this?

I started an IVF cycle a week ago with pills you take the 1st week that are supposed to make AF come. Well no AF and the pulls are gone.

I'm assuming you took Prometrium (natural progesterone) or Provera (a synthetic form of progesterone). It usually takes several days after stopping the pills for AF to start so if you just started them a week ago, that's not unusual. I'm guessing since you're spotting, it's on its way. I usually took Provera because the one time I took Prometrium, I waited an agonizing THIRTEEN days after the last pill before AF came. With Provera, it was generally 2-4 days after the last pill.
