If you are planning diagnostic lap & D&C...

Hi there,
I just wanted to post a little FYI here. I'm hoping my experience can help somebody else. You learn a lot on this rollercoaster..
When I was originally being worked up for IF >2 years ago, I was seeing my regular OB (not an RE). Well I guess that's the first thing I would do differently, go directly to an RE, don't waste any time with OBs who like to dabble in IF issues...
ANYWAY, this OB wanted me to have a laparoscopy to check for endo, for diagnostic purposes. He wanted a biopsy. At the same time, he recommended a D&C. WHY? I CANNOT ANSWER THAT.

I trusted him, and didn't question the need for a D&C. And he never told me why I needed a D&C either. If I had endometriosis it would have been OUTSIDE of my uterus. And if I had a problem with the inside of my uterus, he should have done a hysteroscopy to check the inside of my uterus visually prior to taking a blind knife to it for no good reason!!!
Well the month following the surgery, which showed that I do have endo, I ended up pg, and miscarried at 6 weeks.
Fast forward to 1 year later. I was seeing an RE who wanted me to have a sonohystogram to check my uterus for adhesions, and IT TURNED OUT I HAD THEM! MY HISTORY DOES NOT INDICATE ANY REASON I WOULD HAVE THEM, AND I suspect that the D&C was the reason I built up scar tissue in my uterus. Thus I ended up with surgery #2 to clean up my uterus. My RE didn't directly blame the D&C for my scarring, but it was indirectly discussed that "a D&C can cause uterine scarring". The scarring could have been the cause of my m/c. I'll never know.
My advice to anyone who is in the midst of diagnostic testing, DON'T LET YOUR DOCTOR DO A D&C WITHOUT EXPLAINING WHY HE/SHE IS DOING IT!
