genetic karotype

Hi,
I have had 3 IVF failures within the last two years. One resulted in a chemical pregnancy. I also have immune issues. I had one IVF with immune tx, that was negative also.

My new RE wants to get my blood karotyped to see if I have a genetic problem. My family is healthy and so am I. My husband has been tested for this already and his was normal (he has a zero sperm count from blockages). Don't know why I wasn't tested from the beginning???

What should I expect for this test? (what does the test show) What are the chances of getting abnormal results? I guess I am just scared of this because I already have so many problems to deal with now.

Thanks Kris

Hope:
I understand your feelings completely. I just got our genetic results back about an hour ago. We are both "normal". Gee I guess I should be happy, but after 3 m/c's and no pregnancies lasting over 3 months I am tired and depressed. I have suffered through a Trisomy 9 and two undiagnosed m/c's. We have been trying for 2 yrs this month and AF just started, at age 42 I don't have anymore to give either financially or emotionally. All I can say is it might answer some questions for you, but it is very expensive (which I am sure you know) plus our insurance wouldn't pay for DH's testing or for the doctors appt. $1600. out of pocket. What will you do if you too come back "normal"? You still aren't any closer to what you want. What then? If you aren't normal maybe you can move on to something else, maybe not. I am at a loss.... I had not thought this information would be so depressing. I should have not put so many eggs into the basket hoping for an answer that doesn't exist. They just don't warn you....
Good luck and may all your questions be answered.

Abilene
