It took my mother 10 years of trying and 4 m/s before me to have me. She even was bed ridden for the entire time she was pg with me! Most of the m/s happened at 5- 6 months along. Now I have not yet begun all the testing for fertility. The only thing I have had done is the dye test which came back negative for blockage. I have been with my DH for 5 years do not use birth control and have never gotten pg??? I find it very odd. Now that I am wanting to try I am wondering if her trouble ttc is now my trouble ttc.
What do you guys think? By the way my grandmother had 18 CHILDREN all healthy! figure that one out! :(

It depends on WHY your mom was having problems getting pregnant. Some fertility factors are genetic.
If she has missing/misshapen uterus, ovary, etc...that can be genetic and congenital. If she has odd hormone counts like high FSH, that can also be genetic.
It's too difficult to say what her exact fertility issues were and if you can expect to have the same problems without a lot more information. But it's definitely something that you should mention to your doctor during any fertility testing. It might give your doctor a better idea of how to narrow the scope for your testing.
From the simple information you gave here, it sounds like your mom had an incompetent cervix. I do believe that condition is genetic...but also treatable if they know to look for it. Definitely mention it to your doctor.

Good luck! I hope you can get some answers soon!!

thank you for the information. I will look into the incompetent cervix thing. It was so long ago now ( I'm 32 this summer) that I don't know if she will remember why she had problems. I do recall her telling me that the babies (forgive me for the lack of a better term), that they had a hard time staying in. One of the pregnancies ended in the baby falling out. one ended in an electric shock from unplugging the iron. I only recall those 2 incidents. I will ask her if she can recall anymore medical information that they may have given her then. She was 29 when she had me and I am well over that age of when she had me. my Dh has 3 kids from previous marriage so it must be me

I know this is titally the flip of your discussion, but I am adopted. My bm had 3 girls in 4 years. All 3 of us have fertility issues. She was a, "fertile Myrtle", we are not.

well I did some research on the incompetent cervix issue and that is exactly what my mother had. In fact one of my aunts ( mothers sister) had the exact same thing done as well and also had multiple m/s. I am going to be sure that my gyn knows this info. I am a little confused though the some info was conflicting. One said that it cannot be diagnosed until the 2nd tri mester b/c there are no symptoms. Another site said that your gyn can dectect an incompetent cervix with an u/s and/or pap. So I am putting a call into my gyn to ask today.
