Hi everyone, I am glad I found this board. I rarely ovulate on my own, so my RE prescribed 100mg of Clomid for days 3-7. I have read that for women who are very overweight, the effectiveness of Clomid can be lessened. I am a size 26/28. Do any of you know any success rates for women close to my size? I am having trouble finding much online and I'm anxious about the chances of it working for me. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the welcome, Kelly. Good luck with the injections!
I was thinking I should probably have posted more info. My only fertility issue is that I don't ovulate regularly. Everything else looks good, bloodwork and blood pressure are perfect. I am using 100mg Clomid with the trigger shot, ultrasound monitoring and IUI. If you or anyone you know are about my size and used Clomid, were follicles produced? If so, how many?

WELCOME to FT! :D I am close to your size and did the past two cycles with clomid..and nada~zilch...nothing! But I have a history of looonngg cycles like up to 54 days...so I am pleased to say that 100mg of clomid shortened my cycle to 33 days..which was the goal of my doctor...so now I have a better chance of normal ovulation.
If the first month doesn't help...don't be worried. I know I just knew that month 1 would be the magic bullet. It does not always work that way. And I have seen and personally know where the third month is the charm.
But you are receiving way more advanced treatment course that me. I only did a Day 21 pregestone test. I think the trigger shot and IUI is great!..I would love to have that protecal. I plan on seeing a RE on Oct. 6th.
So do you mind sharing what your RE said about your weight. Did he view it as a problem? Any advice or info is greatly appreciated. I am sooo nervous that the RE will use the weight excuse as why I am not getting pregnant.

Goldie, my cycles were really long also. They have been irregular since I started having them (and I was about 140 pounds lighter then), so I went in ready to tell him that while I have been working on it, losing weight is not necessarily the fertility solution for me. My RE didn't mention my weight at all during the initial consultation. I kept waiting for him to tell me he wouldn't work with me until I was XXX pounds (another RE in town would not work with me until I got down to 230, and that is a long way for me), but he never did and it sort of shocked me. During the second visit I brought it up while asking what he thought about whether Clomid would work, and he said he is uncertain because of my weight because with larger people, the effects can be weaker. He was very positive about it, but did say it is a concern. He said if I don't respond this cycle, he will increase the Clomid and try again, but if that does not work, the plan is to lose some weight. Insurance does not cover any of this for me so injectibles are too cost prohibitive. He said we could try again every 20-30 pounds as I lose weight. He could tell that was disappointing for me and was very positive. He said we don't know yet, and if I do respond to Clomid, we'll go ahead with the IUI. He told me he treats a lot of women my size and I was so nervous I forgot to ask how successful they are! I'll ask this weekend when I go for my next ultrasound to check for follicles.
I really appreciated his plan that he would not deny treatment based on my weight. It made me feel good that he was willing to try for a few cycles. If I hadn't brought it up at my last appointment, I'm sure he would not have said anything. I have never seen any other women in his office who were even slightly overweight, so I'm glad I asked and found out he does work with others my size.
I got on the fast track to the trigger and IUI because I'm using frozen donor sperm. Fresh sperm lives much longer and the timing isn't as critical, so my understanding is that many doctors would not be as aggressive initially in those cases.

Ooooh we have so much in common. My cycle usually runs between 40-54 days..with the average being about 42 days. When I first went to the high risk obgyn doctor he said that by my cycles being this long it is cutting my chances down right off the bat by 30%...because I am only having 9 cycles. So he upped my dosage of glucophage from 500 to 1500 mg and said that clomid is great for helping to shorten the cycle. It is just so darn frustrating waiting and waiting. :(
Boy can I relate to the RE weight thing. Last May (BEFORE a 70 lb weight loss) I went to NCCRM..which is "the place" to go in my area...great success rate, great doctors  ...I seen the head doctor their and he basicly told me I was not getting pregnant because my excess fat was producing bad estrogen. So he wanted me to eat 600-700 cals a day and return in six months and then he would try to help me?..He also prescribed prescrip diet pills for me. I was sooo humiliated. I just knew I would NEVER step into an RE office again. I made a goal for myself that after I lost 50 lbs I would go somewhere for help...if I had not gotten pregnant..You mean I didn't get pregnant by losing the 50 lbs?..Imagine that...LOL!..sorry...anyway..I made an appt. with an ob that someone told me about who was really friendly..at that point in time I was so terrified of being dis-respected that I needed to feel safe. So although I felt I really needed to move on to an RE I went ahead to this doctor. He never mentioned my weight. I actually brought it up and he said that as long as I was eating good..watching my sugar and exercising..that there was no way to know what my set-point is..that women are so different...Boy did I like that answer. Even though he still wanted me to continue to lose weight (and I have lost another 20 since my first visit with him)...I did one month at 50 mg clomid..and I did not ovulate. Then last month was 100mg .....and it shortened my cycle to 33 days..so now I will do another 100 mg and just received a call from the nurse saying he wanted to do a Day 14 US. So we will see how this goes...I still plan on keeping my Oct. 6th appointment with the RE...But felt I did not want to waste this month..and could not get any earlier than Oct. 6th.
I also have to self-pay...as my insurance covers nothing. I know an IUI is going to be expensive.
So what cycle day are you doing an US with your doctor?

HI Tx
Welcome to the board. I did use clomid with injectables had a good response with it.
I know with injectables. Sometimes us fluffy girls have to do them IM to get better response. I never heard this about clomid. I did try to seach for some info on it. But could not find anything.
Good luck

Goldie, my cycles over the past year and a half I've been charting have been anywhere from 35-125 days and I think I ovulated twice. The average length was about 65. My OB/GYN started prescribing Provera to end the cycles and my RE did the same thing before starting the Clomid. My ultrasound is on cd12. He said he likes to do them on cd13 but that falls on Sunday (office is closed), and he is confident he will be able to tell a day early if they are growing well. If they are, the plan is to trigger the evening of cd14 and do the IUI on cd16.
Self-pay is sadly another huge stressor in this whole situation. The anxiety of TTC is already bad enough without thinking of how I'll find another $1000 every month.
I completely understand needing to find a "safe" doctor. Believe me, I understand in more ways than one. I'm so glad I found my RE, he is wonderful.

Hi again
I asked sort of the same question at a different forum and the explanation I got was that when you have problems getting pregnant taking something like clomid basically brings your chances up to normal. Unfortunatly I think that "normal" is only like 20% a cycle. I personally would like to think it is a super drug and I will become pregnant right away (thats what I tell myself so the hot flashes and super bitch attitude seem worth it) Good luck TX

I'm fine with normal chances! I just hope I respond so I'll have any sort of chance. I know what you mean about wanting it to be the magic pill, though - especially when things cost so much.
Wow, you are not kidding about the bitch attitude. My last dose of Clomid was last night and hopefully now life will be a little more normal. From what I understand, I have hot flashes coming up, though.

hi again!
I definatly found those hot flashes and other fun side effects were with me for quite awhile after I was done the clomid and low and behold I found out I didn't even O on that dosage. All that time and bitchiness and BD was wasted!! AAARRRGGHHHH And I felt so different this time I even had major bad cramping around CD 14 and 15 so I thought for sure. Oh well. We will get it figured out!! Good luck to you !

Oh I remeber the mood swings. Don't think I will ever forget. I went to look for a new car while on clomid. Not something I would suggest to do. I am normaly a level mood person. But clomid made me a witch.lol

Well, I had three follicles but they were only 10.5, 10 and 10. I'm starting prometrium today to bring on AF and we're going to a mix of Clomid and injectables next cycle.
Denise, what is the name of the injectable you used with Clomid? The doctor mentioned what we will use but I can't remember the name. He said we will do them on days 3, 5 and 7 with the 3-7 Clomid. I had no idea there was an option between Clomid and the really expensive $2000+ injectables, so I'm hopeful that will help.

Dani I did a Clomid Injectables mix last cycle. I took 150mg of clomid 5-9 and Gonal-F 10-17 triggering on cd 18. I ended up with 6 mature follies. I ended up with ohss and exactly 2 weeks after the iui I got AF. First time I have ovulated, first af without provera in years. I wish you lots of luck with this next cycle. I responded well to it. Sitting out this cycle cause my ovaries are still huge. Can't wait to get back in it.

I did clomid with the gonal F and fertinex. Its been so long the kind 0f drugs may be diffrent now. I respond really well with the mix. I was a poor responder. My first IVF was cancelled due to small eggs. with the mix I would retrieve between 6 and 8 eggs. This was very good for me.

Well I am almost 40 weeks pregnant and ready to deliver any day and I took clomid. I started at 22/24. I rarely got my period on my own and always took birth control pills to have it every month. Well I went off and with my insurance they want you to try the meds before testing so my OBGYN put me on 50 mg. from days 5 to 9 and nothing. The second month he upped to 100 mg. froms days 5 to 9 and nothing. Third month he kept it at 100mg but upped the amount of days from 5 days to 7 days so I took it from day 5 of my cycle till day 11 and wham I ovulated and got pregnant.
Good luck and please no it can happen to you. I also used First Response Ovulation Kits the first two months and it was saying I ovulated on the second day I tested and when I came in exactly 8 days from the day the test changed the results would come back really low so my doctor suggested to change kits because maybe that one wasn't working and I switched to Clear Blue and that changed literally on the last test kit and showed I ovulated really late.

Dee?...Did your doctor even suggest that you take the clomid days 5-11 BECAUSE you ovulate late. I have been taking 3-7. I think I ovulate late..I have long cycles...like 40-54 days. Or is the days taken just trial and error?

Goldie my doctor said after the second round that he wanted me to take it for seven days and not just five and said he had really good success with that and even started seeing write up's in medical magazines he reads about it. As for when he starts it he always started on day 5. I would take provera and from the first day I bled (sorry TMI) I counted and on the 5th day I would take it. Now I know that OPK aren't that great and can give a lot of false positives but I really believe that if I didn't switch and continue sex I wouldn't of been pregnant. See the first two months as soon as I got a positive we only had sex a few more nights every other night.
Good luck.
