I need to vent!!!

(same as Aunt Uncle forum)

I need to give you some details before I go into my vent. So, my sister in law gave birth to my adorable nephew 4 weeks ago and he is still in the hospital with a few complications (he was 5 weeks early). Anyway, I stopped at the hospital on the way home to visit him and I can't believe what happened. Two doctors were making their rounds and one of the doctors walked up and said "This is a weird looking kid". A**hole!! Can you believe it!! I was sitting there holding him and this total idiot of a doctor says this right in front of me to this other doctor! I'm not sure if he thought I was an employee cause I was still wearing my scrubs from my job or what but I couldn't believe it. The other doctor must have seen the look on my face cause he gave me alittle smile and said "he is a special boy isn't he?" What the hell does that mean? Are you agreeing with him or trying to cover for him? I had no idea what to do. So I put the baby back in his crib and went outside to call my dh and tell him to come down to the hospital cause I was so upset. He came down and together we went and reported this doctor to the administration dept. I should hear back from them tomorrow. I hate it when people think they have a right to speak their insulting idiot remarks about things that are not any of their business. I also told the lady from admin. that I do not want the parents to find out about this. They have enough to worry about than this whole bull crap situation. I also told her that I want the doctor to give me a verbal and a written apology from this prick. God I hope he gets into some serious trouble.

Good for you. He had a lot of nerve. You never say anything like that regardless if he thought you were an employee or not. That isn't nice or professional at all.

That is terrible. What was this doctor thinking, Guess he wasnt. Sometimes I wonder what made them become Doctors if they have no compassion.

Haven't been on in awhile so I thought I'd catch you ladies up on what's been happening. I went and visited with my nephew again on Wednesday and did not see that doctor (Thank God) but I did get a visit from the patient advocate lady. I was shocked to see that she had come down to where I was to talk about what happened. She told me that she was waiting on a call from the head nurse to get this doctors name (I didn't catch it). Well.... she called me yesterday and there are two that fit the desription that I gave her. So they need to see which one of those were there that day. After that is complete then the issue will be given the vice president of the hospital cause he is in charge of the doctors. So hopefully by the end of next week I will get my apology and I get to make this A**hole squirm as he does it. I'll let you ladies know what happens as soon as I do.

P.S. Nephew is doing okay but he might have to have a feeding tube put in. They are running more test to make sure. Other than that he has no other problems. Either way they said he might be able to go home in a week a two.

Good for you!! 'Bout time some of these doctors tow the line... if it weren't for US, they wouldn't have a job in the first place!

While I completely agree the story you related shows a physician with insensitivity and manners issues.....I am a nurse and I am wondering if it might be possible that the doctor said "funny looking kid". The reason I ask is it is a sort of slang medical people use to describe children with some sort of visual manifestation of a physical ailment. I've heard people say "FLK" many times almost as though it is accepted medical terminology.
Anyway, I find it difficult to accept people could be so callous so I guess I am looking for a way to explain it away. Don't hold your breath expecting the hospital to censure the doctor...you cannot believe what they can get away with! Best wishes for a strong and healthy nephew.

Guess what ladies??!! The doctor left a message on my phone yesturday afternoon! Oh my gosh I can't believe it. OOhh how I wish i could play it on here for you guys to hear. I know I asked for an apology but I never thought i would actually get one. He rambled on for over two minutes about how sorry he was and he made a bad call by saying what he did. He called it a "slip of the lip". He also gave me his office number and his schedule so i would be able to reach him and discuss things if I wanted. Can you believe it?! I will be giving that number a call and I promise I won't be mean but I will drill the facts in his head that what he said was out of line and that he should think before he speaks. Hubby still hasn't heard the message but he will tonight when he gets home. Also the parents still don't know anything about the incident and I thank god for that. They have enough to worry about and this would have made things harder on them. My precious nephew did have surgery the end of last week to put in the feeding tube and will be released tomorrow or Fri. He has been in there for 7 1/2 weeks and it's time for him to come home. Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and for letting me vent my anger. It goes to show that if you do stand up for what you believe that you will get what you want. Thanks again ladies.

P.S. veryvery- I didn't know that the doctors used the term "funny looking kid". The doctor did say "weird looking kid" though. I can't believe that think that is acceptable. When do they feel that is appropriate? The only thing that is "weird" about my nephew is that his lower jaw is smaller. But half the men on his dad's side have the same thing. I think its adorable and it's nothing that can't be fixed later. Even with that it's not like he has a third arm or an eye on the top of his head. thanks for responding to my vent.

Sorry to butt in...I don't usually post here.

Hope your nephew does well. My son had a feeding tube put in at 5 months, and he is 3 now. It isn't so bad once you get used to it!
