Considering My Options (ch ment)

Hello. I'm kind of new to this board. Actually, I'm pretty much a lurker. I'm 32 years old, and have three beautiful children. My ex husband, who was abusive, insisted on a sterilization after the birth of #3. The Doctor cut off most of my tubes (over 4 cm), and there was an irrepairable complication when he knicked a tube during surgery. I remarried last year. He does not have any bio. children of his own. The tubes are most likely not repairable, and at my age, we decided on IVF.

I am in Indiana. Our insurance doesn't hardly cover dental, let alone something as big as IVF. We narrowed it down to two doctors. Entire procedure estimate at one place is $8000, and at another $12,000 but they have a much higher success rate.

So, that brings me into this message board. I am 5'6 1/2 and weigh 213. In March, I weighed 242, so that's down quite a bit but still considered obese. My question is this: Should I go for my first IVF this fall at 213, or should I risk waiting to see if I can lose weight and go for the IVF in the spring, when I'm 33? It's so expensive, and I'm really concerned about the age thing, but the weight thing stinks too. And, the money thing is worst of all. So, what do I do? Will I have terrible egg production because of my weight, and what impact will waiting until older have?

I want to have the best possible chances. I'm not getting any younger, and my husband is having baby-itis. . . you know, he is really wanting a little one badly. Don't get me wrong, he loves the three as his own. I just want to give him this. . .

HI A

Welcome to the board.

So sorry you had to go though all this.

Here is the thing. You are only 32 so you do have a bit of time to wait. If you think you can get into the best possible shape health wise. It may be worth waiting a few months. But not to long. With the tube issue IVF is your best bet.

Unfortuantly its hard to tell how your egg production will go till they run the intial b/w. And some times it wont tell if there will be any problems. But on the plus side you do have children. So your eggs have worked. thats half the battle.

Good luck with your decision

I have gone through IVF once & I was overweight for my height as well. I was 4'11" & 150. We were successful & they mentioned nothing of my weight. We are going through it again & I am about 15 lbs heavier & they said I should be fine. I am in good health so I should be ok. But definitely ask the doctors at the IVF clinic. They will of course say try to lose weight ( as all docs do) but make sure to ask if it will significantly affect your treatment.

Good Luck!

I have a simlair situation. I did IVF twice..first time was a no go because of lab issues. Second time I was about 240 when we started and it did not work. I am looking into FET and the RE said I should lose weight because I was 25 lbs lighter when I got pg last. I am not sure if weight is a big issue but I know it is a factor. IVF is a numbers game and it does not seem to matter on if you have had children previously. If this time does not work for me, I am going to get my tubes repaired, I already found a Dr. I really like. I figure, with the tubes untied, if it is meant to be then it will be.
