I'm backsliding HELP

 Hey all, I'm new to this board and really, to these forums, but I wouldn't mind some help.

In the time it took for DH to recover from varicocele ligations(9 months) I was told to lose "as much weight as possible" and to get to my "ideal" weight if I could, if not, to get to 180 lbs(the magic weight between "normal" and "overweight") for my height.

Well, from September to May I lost 54 lbs and got to 179 before IVF/ICSI/PGD#1. Yeah, me! Look good, feel good, awfully proud of myself.

however, IVF/ICSI/PGD#1 flopped. :( And to be honest, I wonder if I lost weight too quickly and fouled up my eggs. So, I decided between cycles(June and July) to not diet hard with the vacations and family time we had going on and just "eat smarter", but not count every calorie and be a fanatic.

But, I've GAINED 12 lbs. And I can't seem to make myself care. IVF/ISCI/PGD#2 starts in 9 days and I'm ashamed to go to the REs and have her disappointed. And heaven forbid this one fails, I'll have to make myself diet some more and give myself the goal of 163(my ideal weight) before we'd cycle again in Feb.

Do you have any tips on staying motivated? Should I be REALLY good this week and try to take some of the weight off again or will it not affect the IVF that much?

TIA,
Emily

If you are really wanting to drop some of the 12 pounds before going just do an atkins type diet which is low carb and you will drop a lot of weight even in a week though I must say what you have lost already is really wonderful and I'm sure he isn't going to be too upset with that kind of weight gain. Keep motivated for yourself!!!!!!!!!!! You are doing an awesome job!!!!!!!

Wow! For the past eight weeks I have been dieting. I have never dieted before in my life, and it is HARD! So far I've lost 10 pounds. I am so impressed with your weight loss. That's amazing! I can totally understand why you're upset about gaining 12 pounds back, but you've still come such a long way and learned so much about eating and weight management. You should be proud. I doubt you lost too much too fast, but ask your doctor about that. If you are concerned about that, I would definitely not do anything drastic this week just to get ready for your doctor appointment. Just go back to what you were doing and really watch yourself.

Also, think about what you've done during the time that you gained the 12 pounds back. Maybe there's one area or weak spot where you could do better without going all out. Do you know what I mean? For me, it's soda. I love Coke but I know that cutting Coke out of my diet has had a big impact on my weight loss, as well as other health benefits. So even if I'm having a bad week in terms of my diet, I still try to steer clear of the Coke. Maybe you have something like that you can focus on instead of taking on the whole diet thing at once.

I know that after a failed cycle I overeat and feel less motivated than ever, but getting ready for a new cycle gets me more motivated. I tell myself that I need to practice eating healthy now so that when I get pg I'll already be on my way to a healthy baby without having to make major changes to my diet.

I don't know how much the 12 pounds will impact the IVF. See what your doctor says. It seems to me that the significant weight loss you have already accomplished should really help.

I'm new to the whole dieting thing so I don't have much to offer, but I hope this helps a little. Be proud of what you've accomplished, and know that you've done it once, so you will take this weight off again. Good luck!

I thought I remember you from over there, I found this after they changed to the new boards, I dont like them too much. Anyway CONGRATS to you on your wonderful weight loss! How did you really do it, I'm trying I was on the wagon for about 3-4 weeks and did really well lost 18 lbs but I've started to be bad again, and it makes me feel like crap! I've got to start working out, I'm about where you were at (215 now) and want to be 175, man that seems so far away! But any advice you can give would be helpful, as far as the new 12lbs I understand its hard to watch every item all the time, sometimes you just want to EAT! But dont get too discouraged, you've done a GREAT JOB! Good luck, and please pass on any ideas!
