Discussion on Wormtail (Pettigrew)

I thought maybe we could open a train of thought/discussion about Wormtail and how he plays into this book and potentially the next.

It's been mentioned before that it was awfully 'convenient' that Wormtail has been given a silver hand just at the time Lupin (werewolf) was introduced into the story. Now I'm wondering if Wormtail will repay Harry (for saving his life... 'a powerful bond' was created...remember?) by actually killing that new powerful werewolf when/if he attacks Harry? (can't remember his name right now)... I just see this as a potential theory.

What do you guys think?

Oooh. I never thought about that connection.

I'll bet you're right. Wormtail has to do something in Book 7 to repay Harry, and that would make a lot of sense.

(I can't wait until Book 7 comes out. It's going to answer a lot of questions, and tie up a lot of loose threads. Though I think this book did that as well.)

Refresh my memory on the silver hand, please? How did Pettigrew lose his, and what does a silver one do?

Pettigrew cut his own hand off in order to give the Voldemort back an actual body. Voldemort required flesh given by a servant, his father's bone (they took that from the gravesite that the fight occured at) and the blood of a foe (he cut Harry and dripped the blood into a vial).

I'm not sure what a silver one does but I figure more about it will come out in book 7. I'm going to reread the small portion at the beginning of Book 6 that contains Pettigrew to see if any vague references are made.

VERY interesting theory!!! :D
I think you may on to something with that....
I know i read that JKR said this last book was going to be like encylopedia brittanica. she's going to have a lot to finish up and answer. I think it'll be the biggest book yet! I hope anyway. I think if it's less than 1,000 pages i'll be disappointed. LOL!

I hope it's a thousand pages or more!!

(That ought to take at least a day to read. LOL!)

interesting theory. I never thought about the connection between silver and werewolves before. really the only reason for him to still be around is to repay harry, since his service to voldy is essentially over - he is a weak wizard who is not really neccessary to voldy's fight.

You know Jenn...I was wondering about that! I think JKR got a lot of flak about her last two books being so big, and yet...it seems like almost too much is left for the last book.

Yeah...Greybeck (I think is his name) is an interesting addition to this book. He's obviously a new Death Eater since he wasn't in the original circle, yet he's been around for a while if he bit Lupin when Lupin was a kid. And yeah...silver hand just seems TOO convenient with two werewolves running around.
