I have had success on both diets. After finding out I have PCOS, I have leaned more towards the South beach diet because of the low carbs. I had been sabatoging my WW efforts by eating way to many potatoes, pasta and rice. In retrospect, I think the the new WW core diet, is similar to the South beach diet. There are pros and cons for both of them for me. WW has weekly meetings that can hold you accountable and are supportative. SBD is cheaper and does have an online chat group and a nutritionist thread. Which ever one you choose, I wish you all the best. :)

I agree with previous poster. It's more a matter of preference. It is easy to do WW and watch your carbs too. I like the idea of having the support of a weekly meeting.

Hi, just wanted to add my 2 cents...i think it depends on you as far as what works better. There are a lot of diets out there and most are successful, but not successful for everyone.

If you can make it to the WW meetings and can journal the points, then that may be for you. I personally don't get a lot out of the meetings, to me they're long and I usually get irritated from someone who talks too much. I also forget to journal most of the time. I've also found that I loose weight better on low carb, it's just what works best for me. I did really good on it right before my wedding, I tried WW before that and I just was not committed.

Have you been to a WW meeting? You may want to try on, I think they'll let you do one for free. Then you can read the SB and see what you like. I think I read the diet part of the SB book in just 2 hours. Most of it is menus and recipes. Our library had it so you may not have to even buy it first.

Good luck.

I am probably no help here but I like both! Before I was dx with PCOS, I tried WW and lost about 15 lbs...I like the points system, it was easy for me to follow...After I was dx, I tried the South Beach diet which I also like because of the lower carb approach. Like the previous ladys said...maybe you could do both...Use the WW to keep track of what you eat but try and intergrate the lower carb food if thats what you need to do. I liked the WW points because it teaches you alot about portion sizes which was what I needed alot of help with.

For me...Weight Watchers gave me too much freedom..and I found I did not eat nutritionally enough. South Beach takes away most of the white stuff so if you have a carb problem...I would vote South Beach.

I have learned the HARD WAY...that the old old addage....Calories in = Needed Calories Out = WEIGHT LOSS. That is really in a nutshell what it all boils down to. If you really think about; if we cut out the white stuff..we are left to eat LOWER calorie food (veggies) which thus means more weight loss..so is it the white stuff being out of our diet..or is the calorie deficite?
