Hi Ladies!

Name: Becky Joslin

Age: 40

Current Weight: 237. I'm 5'4". I've been on fertility drugs for several months and gained about 40 lbs. I got pregnant during last IVF and lost the baby on 6/2/05 at 18 wks due to a blood clotting disorder. Will start meds again next month, so I want to lose as much as possible before that.

Diet: Weight Watchers. I'm also trying to use the Insulin Resistance plan with the Weight Watchers plan. I'm not diagnosed with PCOS, but insulin is known to be a problem in conceiving, so I'm going to give it a try.

Exercise: I walk about 45 minutes 3 days a week. I am working on increasing that and adding weight training as well.

Guilty Pleasures: Food in general. I love to eat.

Goodluck everyone!!

Holding ourselves accountable to someone may help!! I will start doing this right now and exercise as soon as I roll out of bed in the morning. That way I can't talk myself out of it. Poor DH doesn't like when I watch him exercise and have ice cream.

Name: Tina

Age: 35

How much wt. you want to lose: another 75

Current wt: Everyone hold your breath. 265 I'm 5'91/2 (I don't look that big, luckily I do have some muscle mass). That was hard. DH and my doc are the only 2 people who know that. I have already lost 40 since last Aug. (I gained 75 lbs after my mc in 10/2002 from depression and to be honest I haven't cared enough about myself since then to try to lose)

Diet food plan: I lost down to 203 in 2002 and the only thing that works for me is to keep a food diary of every single thing I eat and the calories. No more than 1400 calories a day. No potatoes, rice, pasta, white bread or sweets. Stop eating out of depression and boredom.

Excercise: I have liked the results I have gotten from Tae Bo in the past. I will stick to that and maybe try free weights for toning. I have to exercise everyday.

Guilty pleasures/favorite foods: PO-TA-TOES. Anyway or fashion. And bread. The only thing better than those two things is maybe bread with mashed potatoes on it  Sweets: cake, cookies, ICE CREAM, doughnuts, etc. Luv em all!!!!!

I have a question for everyone. Were is the majority of your weight problem. Just out of curiosity. My is my waist. The best way to explain my body shape is an egg with legs. My legs, backside and arms are very toned. My middle looks like I am about 5-6 months pregnant. No kidding. I have had people ask when I was due (that is very rude). So, I always say about 10 months. HEHE!!!

Good luck to everyone. Sorry so long. And post results periodically. We can be a support team.

Your diet (food) plan:South Beach, but I may also try the 6 week body make-over by Micheal Therman, you know the guy from Extreme Make over.... at least to maybe jump start this whole thing.

Exercise plan:Water aerobics 2 x's a week, walking 3 x's a wk., weight training

What are your guilty pleasures (food):[/B] PASTA!!!!! Love love love, I could eat it for breakfast lunch and dinner......really I could!

I did awesome last week, worked out every day...found out my cable company offers "on demand" stations with Free workouts, tried a bunch, but then Saturday came. We went to a concert and drank a few beers, then a few more, then a few more...then Pizza!

Sunday came and since we blew it on Saturday we had encheladas (sp) and got some pie. Horrible day. Yesterday was not as bad, we grilled out, but made some margaritas while we played cards and finished the pie. The good thing is I made DH eat most of it.

Well back on the wagon. I'm getting ready to workout since my brain has not come up with any excuses. I'm restarting the SB diet. I need to stay motivated. I'm going to visit my family in about 2 weeks and I should be able to be ok. My dad has lost over 50lbs on Atkins so they're eating well.

As for where I gain the most weight, in my thighs & butt...oh and my chest! DH likes that, but it's hard when you look in the mirror and all you see is boobs, and not pretty ones.

I hope everyone did better this weekend then me and for those who fell off the wagon, well no better time to get back on then now.

Wow local tv station has the farmers market on, man, the fresh veggies look good. I may have to make a trip, but skip the fruit, potatos and corn ( )

Have a wonderful day!

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one that fell off this weekend. We went out of town and lets say I had no will power at all. Another thing that completly messed me up is that Hardee's brought back the frisco burger! Oh Lord did that messed me up big time but they are so good so it was worth it! Oh well back to the diet starting tomorrow and hopefully it won't kill me.
I have most of my weight in the middle as well. Oh and my bust line (around the back though). It looks really gross and can not wear cute tank tops without my back fat rollin over it. Sorry that was really gross.
Does anyone have any sucess stories for the week cause I could use one right about now.
Angela

07-05-2005, 01:27 PM
haha that's so funny! I had a hardee's burger yesterday too! I did so well on Sunday and I was so dissapointed in myself last night....Not to mention there was a new ice cream place that just opened in town...of course I had to go ALL OUT....Chocolate covered waffle cone with chocolate moosetracks ice cream (choc ice cream with peanut butter cups and peices of fudge). It was just horrible yesterday for diets. I'm back on track and starting today! I signed up with E-Diets for the Glycemic Impact diet plan...I printed out the grocery list and bought all the stuff I need....Now it's just a matter of eating it!

Today I was good so far....For lunch I had a turkey wrap with lots of lettuce and spinach on it...cucumber and tomato salad and grapes...I'm feeling motivated today! Let me know who needs some good cheer! I will pass it along!

hey guys
My weekend didn't go so well either though I had the best of intentions. Went to the cabon with the family and ate steak dinner and everything. Hubby leaves tomorrow for 2 weeks so hopefully I can get it together while he is gone which should be easier since I can eat all that healthy stuff we can't bring ourselves to eat when we are together.

:) Thank You all ladies!!!!...I would be GLAD to help anyway I can. It has been really tough...losing weight for me is very hard. BUT...I'm doing it...I don't really think I will ever gain it back. I changed my mind first..then my eating.

Maybe I will change my exercise around a little....I actually ordered the Pilates machine off of QVC....but I have yet to try it...I am studying the tape that came with it in detail. I had thought about Tae Bo also.

So do we have a specific weigh in day?..or do we just post our progress when we please?

ambergal
07-06-2005, 06:50 PM
Hey ladies. I'm for posting results whenever. That way someone will always have good news.

Goldie. Several years ago I lost about 65 lbs and went down many sizes (gained it all back and then some and now relost 40 so far). Tae Bo gave me the best results. I would highly recommend it. It actually made a difference in my body shape. My friend tried pilates, she really liked it.

Goldie
07-06-2005, 09:13 PM
Amber...with the tae bo...How long before you could do the complete workout..I tried it once with my niece...and frankly I couldn't keep up..now that was 61 pounds ago too...but still, it seemed really advanced to me.

Did you start out with so many minutes and then work your way up?

Kristina921
07-07-2005, 05:25 AM
I haven't tried Tae Bo but I have tried the Firm tapes...I couldn't do the whole thing the first few times but I was starting to see results...Those ladies really kick your butt! Right now I've been using the walk away the lbs tapes which are a nice easy workout. By the way...I've have 2 good diet days in a row! Feeling pretty good today :)

Happy Diet today!

joslin40
07-07-2005, 06:33 AM
I bought the Firm tapes right after my last miscarriage. I was determined to get in shape. Everything is sitting in a pile in my living room now. Of course, unused so far.

You're giving me inspiration. I'm going to get back on track with them today!

Goldie
07-07-2005, 06:51 AM
:hismilie: Really good day for me yesterday...Tuna salad pack with rosemary for lunch and pretzels with salsa. Snacks were seedless watermelon (so good!) and sugar free chocolate pudding .....Dinner boiled chicken with noodles and veggies....lots of water.

Extra brownie points: I had no diet soda
Walked 45 minutes

Hey gang. Tae Bo is hard, but fun and something new. I have the beginner one, it's pretty easy until they start moving faster, then I can't keep up. I have the walk away the pounds too which i like as well as other aerobic tapes. Anything new will change whatever your routine is so go for it, even if it's just for 15 minutes.

Sounds like a lot of people are off to a good start. I'm hanging in there. I've had no energy though. Does that happen to anyone else on the SB diet? My acupuncturist even commented that my energy was down. Let me tell you, Exercising is hard when you have no energy. I thought a few weeks would add energy, but it just keeps dropping. I'm sure the humidity does not help, but some would be nice.

Glad everyone is doing well. The weekends usually kill me. DH is on the diet too, but when one of us cheats, we both do

Denise27
07-07-2005, 09:13 AM
Tae Bo is a great workout I like it. Dont worry about not being able to keep up with the instructer. Do what you can before you know it you will be able to complete the workout.

I started taking boxing I love it. Its one of the classes at the gym I go to. They have the movable boxing bags. What a great workout.

hey guys,

it sounds like you are all doing pretty well, Goldie you are kicken butt. I had a pretty good day yesturday I had physio so I got some exersise and then I went to a birthday party and had bad food and I had planned on not having any food and I would eat at home later but the hunger won out and I ate a bunch of really bad for me foods. You guys sound like you are doing super though!! Talk to you soon.

:hismilie: Hey Denise!!!!...Long time no chat. I think I would LOVE to box...it has got to feel great to take all your frustrations out on a punching bag. I use to belong to a gym that had several advanced classes...not sure if they offered that though..it would be worth me to rejoin if they did.

Can you imagine how many calories you burn....About how long does a session last?

ambergal
07-07-2005, 07:40 PM
Goldie, the first time I tried Tae Bo, I lasted less than 5 mins. I was literally lying in the floor trying to catch a breath  This time I made myself do the whole thing. If you need to take a break while doing it, go ahead. I can't keep up with some of it right now but something is better than nothing for me. Use to be able to do the whole hr of advanced. Hoping to work back up to that in about a couple of weeks. Been doing good this week. Only cheated once (yesterday, bad evil iloveitsomuch chinese take out).. By the way I cut back on soda a year ago. Use to go thru at least a 12 pk a day. Now just do 1 or 2 bottles a week. Mostly on the weekends. Lost 15 lbs when I quit. The sodium is a killer. I can actually feel my hands and feet starting to swell.

Kristina921

ok, it's Friday!! Weekends are always very hard on me with dieting....DH and I usually go out to dinner on Saturday night followed by a movie...It's like our little routine...Well...usually Sat night's dinner is something really bad! Buffet, chinese, mexican, ribs, steak...you name it, we eat it! But I am writing this an a declaration to myself....I WILL MAKE IT THRU THIS WEEKEND! I've been doing so good this week....I would really hate to mess it up. I know myself too well...one bad dinner Saturday nigth starts a downward spiral for the rest of the week and then it's so much harder to get back on track....I really really am going to try to not put myself in that situation this week! If we do go out, I will get grilled chicken and steamed veggies!!! I swear!!!!

I've tried the tae bo and still have the tapes but it's hard for me to keep up the pace. It makes me feel like a klutz when I do it! :rotflmao: Anyways I also have Cindy Crawford's excercise tape (I know it's very old) but I'll tell you it doesn't feel like your doing too much but an hour after your done your butt is very sore (no kidding).

Good luck to everyone over the weekend, it's my bad time too. Even though DH is on a diet too, if one of us wants to go off, we both go off. I'm sure we'll go out to eat too. I usually pick somewhere I'm not too crazy about, then it's easier for me to just eat a salad or something else boring. If I go somewhere I really like, I go overboard or pick the wrong thing...especially mexican. Lately I've been craving steak or lobster. If I can avoid the bread I may do ok.

So Ambergal, when you quit soda, was it diet or regular. I'm drinking about 2 diet soda's a day. It's much better then 3 years ago when I drank regular cokes, but then I quit all together, now i'm addicted to the caffine and fizz. I actually moved to Diet RC because it has splenda, but then I found diet Cherry Vanilla Doctor Pepper and I'm hooked on at least one a day and one RC.

Lets see how the weekend goes. We're going to visit my family next week so hopefully I won't give into my usual..."well we're going on vacation, lets just eat whatever because we know we'll go off once we're on vacation".

joslin40
07-08-2005, 09:10 AM
Have you ever wondered how Mexicans are so thin?? I love Mexican food and eat it at least 4 times a week. I went to the acupuncturist the other day and he told me to lay off the spices. That will certainly do two good things if I can't have Mexican food, but boy I don't know how I'm going to do it!! I thought about going and having fajitas only, but then I know I can't resist the chips. What to do???

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

ambergal
07-11-2005, 05:56 AM
Hey thelady. It was diet. The sodium made me retain water something terrible. I didn't even notice until I quit. Of course then I moved to coffee because of the caffein headache. NOWWW, I'm winging myself from the coffee. One caf. cup in the morning and one decaf favored in the evening. Hoping to go off completely here shortly. I drink alot of water and crystal light now.

My update for the weekend. I did pretty good with the food but AF come on Sat. morning and that has put me out for the exercising. Pain, foul mood, poor DH I was a b***h to him all day Saturday. Normally I don't get that way. I will try this afternoon when DH does his exercise routine. Haven't weighted myself. Scared too.

thelady
07-12-2005, 07:32 AM
Hey, thanks for the info!!! I may try to cut down on my soda's after our vacation. We're driving to visit my family, about 16 hours...with our dogs, I think i'll need the caffine to help drive, luckily I won't have to drive much, DH hates my music and that's part of the deal if I drive, it's much better than his staticky sports radio.

Wish I could say I had a good weekend. We got some bad news, an orderly at DH's grandmothers nursing home broke two of her legs last week while showering her. What kind of person does that? She's sweet and kind, not someone difficult (but that should not make a difference). After hearing that DH wanted to get out of the house and blow off some steam and have a few beers. Don't know what his family is going to do about it, the person has been fired but not sure if any other steps will be taken.

On top of all that, evil AF came and my attitude went back to...what the heck, we're going on vacation, let's eat...mexican and pizza (i'm so dumb). I got on the scale today and did not like what I saw, but I do have to remember AF just started and to my credit I'm still exercising, 2 hours Saturday, 2 hours yesterday and I'm about ready to do more today, (not 2 hours though).

Well I'll check back with everyone later. Hope everyone did good and stays on track.

Kristina921
07-12-2005, 07:59 AM
That really sucks about DH's grandmother :( I personally hate nursing homes after doing an intership in one for 3 weeks in high school....

Well, This must have been a good weekend for AF cause she came to visit me too! I was fine until last night and couldnt take it anymore! We had chinese and it was soooo good. But afterward, I felt bloated and sick all night. I am trying to remember that feeling so I wont do it again! I am back on the wagon this morning :) I was proud of myself this weekend cause I got up both days and did my walk away the lbs tapes!

Good Luck this week!!

Anyone ever read "The Weigh Down Diet" book by Gwen Shamblin? It got me started on my road to weight loss (64 total so far). It is fabulous. I wish EVERYONE who has a weight problem could read this book. It teaches you to feel TRUE hunger. I honestly don't think I will EVER re-gain this weight. Please everyone check it out. It is a old book..so I know it is probably on e-bay or amazon.com for really cheap.

I hope everyone will join the booty-bootcamp on Friday. Thought maybe we could weigh in on the 1st and the 15th of each month...basicly every two weeks and set our goals for two weeks at a time. Change up both the eating plan and the exercise plan to try and keep us going. Any and ALL suggestions are welcomed. :)

Where has everybody been!? Well I'll start the updates. Fell off the wagon for awhile and managed to gain back a few pounds (ok more then a few). So I weighed myself on Tuesday and I was up to 218. I nearly fell on the floor. I did get back on track and weighed again yesterday and was down to 213. I need to stop falling off and getting serious about losing this weight or I'll never do it. How has everyone else been?

well...the whole diet thing has been thrown out the window this week...am too worried about other stuff...I had what I thought was AF last week...it was gone by Tuesday. This monday I started spotting and have been ever since. Yesterday I started having to pee like every half hour and was feeling pressure "down there". Not like AF cramps but just pressure. I was thinking I have a UTI. Anyway....Last night was CD 11 I thought so I was going to start using my OPK strips. I got a big dark line...I thought it was strange and something told me to use a HPT strip. I did and within 2 mins....a line! I don't know whats going on...I took another hpt last night and it was pos and I took another this morning and it was also pos. I am thinking I must have picked up on an early m/c or chemical pg. It's weird though cause AF was lighter than usual this month and both times I've m/c'ed I've have at least 2-3 days of really heavy bleeding. I guess I am just waiting for it to start at any moment.

I am going to the doctor at 2:00 today to find out what's up. The nurse said it did sound like a UTI but that doesnt explain the ++ hpt's. I could have shrugged off the first one as false + but when there's 3, I'm thinking something is going on.

Sorry so long, I'm just worried and trying to not get myself all worked up....

Weighed again today and I'm back at my starting weight of 210. I haven't been able to say that weight in over three years!! My husband is happy that it hasn't come off of my chest! Bless his heart but if he only knew the pain of these things sometimes. Why are the majority of men like this? He's so cute about it!! Good luck to everyone over the weekend and hopefully we can all be strong and resist the donuts (I know I'll have a hard time!).

It sounds like we're in the same boat. I'm from Texas, weigh about 215 ish right now and plan to see a 1 in the front soon! I am taking metformin 2000mg per day but I've kinda slacked back to 1000mg perday just b/c I've forgotten recently, But I'm gonna start back on the 2000mg this week b/c it will hopefully help me O. I dont have any excesice plan set yet, this week with AF has been crappy so I took it easy, but I plan to start next week by getting a gym mbrshp that I WILL use. I've had two in the last year that I've cancelled and this time I'm gonna do it! I've got a different outlook now on this whole weight loss issue I'm feeling better looking better and everyone is noticing so that is really helping push me along. Good luck to you, lets try to keep each other posted mabey we can be weight loss buddies since we're so close in weight and DX. Talk to ya soon!

Hey ladies, hows it going :hismilie: ??? Well my vacation is over and somehow I stayed about the same. Lots of conoe rides to the beach and walking the dogs (short walks) several times a day helped. Amazing, but i think I lost muscle rather then totally stay the same. I feel like a mushy blimp. Just way to soft and not good soft.

Well I'm back on the SBD plan as of yesterday, now it's down to business. No upcoming events to throw me off. I just keep trying on the clothes I want to wear and work towards wearing them rather then what the scale says, but i'm sure I'll get on the scale too.

Hope everyone has been doing well and sticking to their plan. Weekends are the worst for me, but hopefully not for you.

Take care.

Hey everybody. I haven't logged in for a while - been kind of in the dumps. I'm so tired of this TTC journey!

I don't know if I brought you all up to date or not, but I had a hystersalpinogram last month which showed that both tubes were blocked. Dr. says it may be that they spasmed instead of being blocked, but we don't know for sure. Hubby and I decided to jump right back to IVF and bypass the tube issue. At that juncture the doctor went ahead and set up my plan but decided he also wanted to do a hysteroscopy as there was a small spot on the inside of my uterus. Bad news is the hysteroscopy won't show the tube issue. I really want the tubes unblocked or to know that they are unblocked. DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!!

GOOD NEWS - in the interim I have been doing quite well on the weight loss journey. I'm down to 233. I think my first weigh in was 240, so I'm fairly pleased. Especially considering that my initial reaction to all my bad news was that I ate like a lunatic for about a week!! I know I got over 240. I'm trying to set very small goals and my newest is to get under 230. We all know it can't hurt anything huh? I guess I'm trying to tell myself if I have to face the rest of my life without a baby I at least want to look good!!

This is probably not very healthy - but here goes. I just absolutely love Mexican food - like can't go a day or two without it! (SICK I KNOW). Therefore, I've been having one meal a day and it's at my fav restaurant. I've been cutting back a little, but still eating the chips and cheese. On those days that I don't eat out, I've been cutting out all my carbs. I think the only bad carbs I've been taking in is at the mexican restaurant for chips and rice. I've also been walking at least 20 minutes everyday in the pool. I'm going to increase that this week to take a walk in the pool and also work out.

Any tips from anyone? They would be greatly appreciated. Let's all hang in and end up thin AND pregnant!! :hismilie:

Joslin,

Great job on the weight loss! It's so great to see a loss on the scale, isn't it?

My thoughts on your questions:

If you're having the hysteroscopy anyway (I'm assuming general anesthesia), why not ask the doctor to perform a laparoscopy at the same time, and double-check your tubes? Alternately, ask him to do a repeat HSG while you're out. I've had both done during laps, and it's really much easier to have them during a lap (provided that your insurance will cover it).

Suggestion re: the Mexican food - Mexican food prepared properly can really be quite healthy. Unfortunately, chips & queso don't really qualify ;). What about learning how to prepare some of it at home, and having small quantities throughout the day? Going long periods of time without eating isn't really healthy, and puts your body into starvation mode, which wil make you lose less quickly.

As for the totally not eating carbs, I personally won't do that, because heaven forbid I become pregnant during a cycle, only to find that my baby went 2+ weeks without me eating carbs!

There is a cookcook I recommend by Weight Watchers called Take-Out Tonight! that has an entire section on making Mexican food. Several of the recipes are really tasty. You might want to give that a try as well.

Keep us posted. You can do it!!

Onemore please:

Thanks for the advice. I thought about asking him to do the HSG again while I'm out. I think I'll do that. He said he didn't want to do the lap because of the healing time involved. Apparently he doesn't think it's anything serious and wants me to be able to go on with IVF this cycle.

I actually go to Weight Watchers, although I haven't been sticking very closely to that exact program. I'm going to check out that cookbook.

I know what you mean about the carb issue. It seems to be all the rage, but I'm a little afraid of that too. That's why I've been trying to take in at least a little every day.

Hope you're doing well too!!

Well I don't know if I'm doing good or not. I am still at 233, but I lost below that and then gained. I'm starting my IVF cycle and when I started BCP not only did the scale go up within a couple of days, but my face broke out!! The things we go through.

I'm trying to walk 20 minutes a day in the pool, but it's getting difficult. I work from home, and I keep sneaking off to do it. Need to get my schedule in better order. I think I'm really depressed though. I can't keep my mind on anything.

I have my hysteroscopy Monday and I'm really scared. I'm not scared about the procedure, but more scared of what they'll find out.

Everybody try and have a reasonably healthy weekend.

Hey gang, how is everyone doing? Not great here. I've been doing the SBD for the past 2 weeks and only lost about 2 lbs-in the first 2 weeks, last time i tried this I lost about 8lbs. I'm now trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong and starting over, I even did good this weekend.

I started babysitting my friends 1 month baby last week and my exercise has been down a bit but I've still been doing about 30 minutes at least 4 times a week, 90 minutes on Saturday. We're trying to get on a schedule and get in the swing of things.

Hope everyone else is doing well. I'll take any advise you have to offer.

Thanks!

I am sooo proud of us...seems like mostly everyone is still giving it a good try!...and WE ARE LOSING!...may not be as fast as we like...but slow but sure. I have not lost any more...but have started strength training so hopefully I am building some muscle.

Still on target with not over-eating...we won't count that ARBY'S roast beef and curly fries I ate yesterday for lunch.

Dh and I began hill walking in our subdivision...man is that tough...I could feel it pulling on my lower stomach...automatically makes you tighten your core. I highly recommend it if you have some hills in your area.

Yea! I'm so excited and I thought i actually did bad this week, its been tough. AF showed her ugly head yesterday so that means no BFP! But I'm tryn to look at the "bright side" I'm still losing, this is the first month with no drugs and no RE so we'll see, I'm ready to jump back on the going to the RE wagon again though. But I dotn have the cash for the RX which I have to pay out of pckt for, lovely insurance huh. So I may have to wait a little longer. This just sucks, I'm not gonna lie, I was even day dreaming on how I was gonna tell everyone if I got a BFP, silly me huh! DH is trying to be supportive, we had our god daughter last night and it just breaks my heart to see her and DH together, I'm so terrified I wont be able to give him that. :bawl: Because this is all me, I have PCOS, I'm overweight. UGHH! I'm trying not to cry, I really am but i thought the anticipation wouldnt be so bad without doing the drugs but it was still the same, I guess that's just a frame of mind thing, I dont know. All I know is that as each month passes I feel a little less "-------" I'm leaving this blank because I dont know what I feel less of theres a word but I havent found it yet. I'm really considering looking at another RE and setting up a consult. I may do that Monday. Thanks for listening.

I'm still holding out at 207. AF showed her face this weekend, only two weeks late. Just when I started to think we had an understanding she had to go and ruin it!!! I'll be back on the wagon tomorrow cause I have one month until I get to see my doc again so I need to drop more weight. We took three months off of meds and it has now become 4 months and five by the time i get into the doc,,,,,ugh!! Just when i think we're ready again something gets in the way. I just wanted to let everyone know that I lost 2 pounds and I went out and bought a treadmill this weekend because they were on sale from 1800 to 1200 and by the time I got there there was only the display model left so I got that and they gave me 300 dollars off of that so I think I got a great deal and I still get the same warrentee and everything!
