Hi,

New here. My husband and I have been trying for over 3 years with 1 miscarriage 2 1/2 years ago at 12 weeks. I was diagnosed with PCOS at 20 (now 35). Have been on metformin (500 mg/day) for over a year. I have the full gambit: overweight, cysts, fibroids, endo, hirsutism, fatigue. We just completed my husbands fertility tests (normal). My next action is possible surgery then Clomid. Currently my periods are extremely painful and heavy. I have constant pain in my pelvic area (continuous all month long). I am afraid that in the next couple of years I will be forced to have a hyterectomy.

Today I had an appointment with my electrologist (new lady) and was told about a natural suppliment called Iodoral (an iodine suppliment). Her daughter and a family friend are on it (both on the recommendation of doctors). It is suppose to help with ovarian cysts and fibroids. It is commonly used for hypothyroidism.

Has anyone heard of this or tried it?

HI Amber

Welcome to the board. I dont know what Iodoral is. But if you find any info I would be interested in it. I have a thyroid condition. What is it suppose to help with.

Thanks

It is an iodine (nonradioactive) suppliment used as a treatment for hypothyroidism, fibroid breast, subaceous cysts and ovarian cysts to name a few. The theory is that the body is not getting enough iodine (the amount in salt and bread is not enough). Apparantly iodide (a form of iodine) is essential to thyroid function and as we know, the thyroid is probably the root of our problem with PCOS. Do a search on the web for Iodoral 12.5. I was able to find info pretty easily. Like I said, just heard about it yesterday. Did a search on the web and ordered some from a homeopathic supplier. The only potential problem I saw was autoimmune hypothyroidism. If that is your case, I would discuss it with your doctor first.

Good luck, once I start taking it, I will post how I feel about it.

:hismilie: Welcome Amber!...I am in NC too!...Where exactly is Pisgah? Also I have never heard or read anything about this med. I do ALOT of reading. I started out at 500mg....and just recently went to a new doctor who upped me to 1500mg. I think that I finally have began to ovulate. I know my body so well...and unfortunately I have not been ovualing in all these 2.5 yrs trying, I don't think. :bawl: Have you thought about asking to up your dosage of glucophage?...especially with the symptoms you are having. I am overweight and high slight insulin-resistance....running in the 120's. So the sugar level is the main reason he upped my dosage. He said that he wants it to be 100 Fasing...and 120 2 hr.s after meals. But know my cycle length is shorter and I can actually feel when I ovulate...crampy. It may be worth a try for you. It may help with your cycle and the ovulation.

My doctor also stated that in some patients...clomid works better with the correct dosage of glucophage. Glad to have a newby...hope you stay with us!

Pisgah National Forest, just south of Asheville. Because of my hubbys job, I actually live in the forest. Beautiful but tourist season is starting.

My doc is consulting with a specicalist in Ohio right now to determine our next line of attack (it is a battle we are fighting). I will ask him about the glucophage. I run 130 in the morning them drop to normal throughtout the day. Liver dumping sugar in my sleep. Doc thinks that is odd. I have lost 35 lbs since I started taking it. It has helped some.
