Hi guys
I am new here and I was just wondering if there was anyone from prince george bc here? I have been married for almost 5 years and I have been trying to concieve the whole time with no luck. I have been diagnosed with PCOS and am on Metformin and just took provera for 10 days. I just found this forum I hope it helps. i find it rather depressing having all these baby making troubles.

Hi Dani. I'm not from BC but I started taking Metformin recently and will be taking provera soon if I don't get AF on my own. How are you doing on the met? I get a few side effects but I can deal. They have Metformin in extended release tabs that are supposed to help with the side effects if they get too overwhelming. I love this forum. Before I found it I felt so alone but a lot of the people here have the same issues and I've gotten a lot of hope and advice here. Hang in there!

Hi Barb
Nice to hear from you!! I have been taking met for 2 or 3 years now and I don't find it too bad, in the beginning I found it gave me a rather upset stomach but that didn't last too long. I have to go and get more blood taken out of me on day 23 and then I have another appointment with the ob/gyn and hopefully she will tell me I can be fixed easily. LOL Good luck with your metformin, keep me posted!!

Good luck with your next appointment! We were going to start Clomid next month but we are kind of on hold pending a second S.A. The restults of the first weren't good. Keep our fingers crossed that the second are better!

:hismilie: How long did it take for you to get over the upset stomach on the metformin? I will be starting bk on it very soon and dread the upset stomach. Do you have any idea? Did you happen to eat low carb? I had heard that eating a low carb diet while taking metformin (glucophage) helps with the upset tummy. Please let me know... And God Bless You!!

Hi Dani, my husband is from Sooke, BC. Vancouver Island is the most beautiful place I have ever been. We are both hoping to move back to the west coast. May not be Canada. I have been on met for over 1 1/2 yrs. Upsets my stomach something terrible. It does help to cut on the carbs. I have started taking protein bars to work for lunch and snacks. Sugar really messes me up. But I refuse to give it up. I have also had my gall bladder taken out and and been diagnosed with IBS.

I took Met for several months and the massive upset stomach was killing me. I quit taking it. My RE has said that Avandia is just as good with less side affects. I am currently taking Femara and hoping that works without anything else. I was never really diagnosed with PCOS...just overweight. Anyway, hope this helps. By the way, I have been lurking for a long time and just decided to register.

Celeste,
Thanks for replying about your experience with Metformin. I dread getting back on it but I have been eating low carb for the last week and 1/2. Been doing pretty good. What type of side effects are you experiencing with the Femara. What did the RE say it would do for you? I'm overweight too. Join the club. LOL... I've got 40 lbs to lose. After some weight loss I hope my menst. cycle will start up again. I have a period about 1 or 2 times a yr. What's your story and why are you on this medicine? Have you ever conceived before? I haven't but hoping to soon. God Bless you and Good luck!
Hope to get a post from you soon! ;)

When taking metformin are you supose to eat less carbs or sugar. Something someone said made me think. Would the metformin work better if i gave up " bad foods"???

barancouda,
Hello there! :hismilie: I would say it would work better, your gastrointestinal system would handle it more smoothly. A lot of people have a hard time when first using it will make you run to bathroom and I'm not talking about #1. I have done some research and have found that when consuming a low carb diet with little sugar it will not be as bad. So you may want to try this! Just a little advice. This medicine can be very awful to take b/c of this. I took it about 3 yrs ago for 2 months and it about killed me b/c of the stomach upset. I finally told my doc I had enough and I did not feel that it was healthy for me to be taking a med. that was cause my body to be in so much stress. It was so bad that my dh and I couldn't even watch a movie after dinner. It really interrupted my way of living. But some time you have to take the good with the bad as they say. If I can help let me know. Good luck with everything!!
