My RE prescribed 5 days of Clomid starting on day 3, then a blood test at day 12 with follicle scan if E2 over 3000.
Hope this helps:)

I use it days 3-7, but was prescribed days 4-8 by my ob/gyn, she told me it really doesn't matter which days you use it.

You Guys are great Thank you for your responses. Keep them coming please.
I wanted to share something I found on the net. I think It is worth passing along if it is true. I will paste a part of the article here as well as leave the link for you to see for yourself.
"Clomid is available in 50-mg tablets that are taken on days 5-9 of your cycle or, less typically, on days 4-8 or 3-7. There is some preliminary research that indicates that an earlier start date may result in more pregnancies, but most gynecologists continue to prescribe it for days 5-9. One recent study actually tried prescribing Clomid on cycle days 1-5. While none of the participants in their day 5-9 groups resulted in pregnancy, 24 percent of the women who took Clomid on days 1-5 were able to conceive."

OB/GYN just upped my dose to 100 mg a day, CD 3-9. One in the morning, and one at night for 7 days, not 5 like normal. He said that this strategy is more natural then both at the same time. Hope he's right. Does anybody else think this is true?

My Dogs,
Unfortunately the OB/GYN said he didn't want to mess with Progesterone checks.
He just bumped me up to 150 mg, but it is spread out. One in the morning, and one at night, for 7 days instead of 5. Again... I'm not sure about his strategies, but I've figure it's worth a shot. I'm all for trying to keep it more natural.
Thanks for the reply!

One of my tubes is closed so I have to have an ultra sound each month to make sure that I am ovulating from the open side.
Thus I have the ultrasound on day 3 - 5 and that same day I start Clomid for 5 days.

I took Clomid w/ my BFP in 03' days 5-9 this time for some reason he told me to take it 3-7. Does anyone know why the difference between doctors? I felt like taking it days 4-8 since I didn't know which one to go with! -me

I did 6 cycles of Clomid with OB/GYN all days 5-9.
Nothing monitored - !!!!!!!! also took progesterone 100mg for last two weeks.
Switched to RE, did two more cycles on clomid, still days 5-9, U/S day 12, HCG, IUI then 200mg progesterone for last two weeks.
This time I was monitored and it was found that clomid screwed up my lining (and probably my mucus).
Then switched to Letrozole (still days 5-9)
All of these resulted in BFN's
1st attempt IVF May 05
My RE did it day 5-9. I chose on my own to do it day 4-8 though on the cycle of my oldest daughter as I was ovulating so late in my cycle, so wanted ot see if I could move my ovulation up a day.

Hello Ladies
It seems the biggest question ( and why I started this thread) is why take it on certain days rather than others. As far as I can tell so far is that Ob/Gyn seem to be the biggest prescribers of 5-9. I cant help but wonder if this is what was taught to them in medical school or if that the manufacturer suggests it this way. I have been seeing a lot of RE's doing the earlier days. Now being this is their specialty one can only wonder? I have read that ppl with a L/P defect and late O are getting it prescribed for earlier days as well. The bottom line is who knows when and why we just wish it would work! I have tried it 1-5, 3-7, 4-8 and 5-9. Nothing yet.... but I am on metformin now and trying to figure this out.

My understanding is that the latest research says days 3-7 is the best way to go... I've tried that twice but BFN both times, unfortunately.

My AF was 6 days late this cycle on my first round of Clomid-I have a long, unpredictable luteal phase. I talked to my dr and she is uping my dose to 100mg but keeping me on the cd 5-9 schedule. I thought she may change it because I was so late but she doesn't want to at this point.
margaret1
05-19-2005, 12:37 PM
My understanding is that the length of the luteal phase is dependent on the date of ovulation. The Wexler book says that menstruation is normally 14 days after ovulation even if ovulation is late. I know from experience that clomid makes me ovulate much later in my cycle. Possibly you ovulated later and that's why you were late. Also, if you were taking progesterone gel, that will make you late too.

Yeah Sandi I think I may have O'd later in the month than I thought-I think the + O on cd12 was a false pos. because I got another + 2 days after that. I think BBT this month will help me out. I think my body is on strike!! LOL!!

My OB/GYN prescribed 50 mg on days 5-9 for the first cycle but it didn't work
I've been on 100 mg days 5-9 with preg testing at CD24 for the last 3 cycles. My prog levels are around 12 each cycle.

150 mg on days 3-7, I would like to try taking one pill morn, noon, even. but this last time I actually ovulated so I don't want to mess with anything. This will be my 5th round with clomid, they say people usually concieve within 3 cycles, do you think this means the first 3 cycles (for me at 50mg, 100mg and 100mg that didn't work) or 3 successful cycles? "They" also say that there is less success the higher the dosage. I'm afraid I'm battling against statistics here.

Hi everyone:
This month is the first time that I've used Clomid/100mg on my 10 day U/S I had 4 follicles at 14 ...the Dr. said that by ovulation time they should be at around 20 (God Willingly) do you think I have a good chance of conceiving?

Wow I am so jealous, you are on top of it!!! That sounds really promising. My Dr. doesn't do anything at all, just checks for cycsts each month and hands me a prescription for clomid. I found a fertility dr. that I will see on the 15th so I hope to get things rolling with him, I think we need to do IUI also, I feel like I wasted the last 3 months just taking clomid.

Momthisyear:
I was told to go straight to a fertility specialist...they great and very informative.
I just started with all of this just a month ago. had bloodwork done first after my day 2 of my period dis Clomid 100/mg on day 2-6, checkup on day 10 to check for follicles had 4 @14 , on that day started using the ovulation kit - small surge on day 12 then on day 13(today) went to check follicles again 3 good follicles @20, 21 and 22 and I will take a shot of ovidrel today if I don't ovulate on my own.....IUI on Sunday (day15)...hopefully that'll work out.
Something very important that I know that helps out with conceiving is prenatel vitamins, no caffinee, and Just found out that over the counter Moltrin can cause infertility in men and women.
I wish you all the love and prayers in the world hopefully we'll be mommies by the end of the year. Take care

I've noticed that the first month on clomid, my right ovary was very sore, so now know because it was being stimulated by the clomid, the the 2nd month I didn't feel anything on my left side, then this month I am feeling it again on my right side, so I am wondering if there is a problem with the left ovary. I am hoping things go better with this new DR.
So how will you know if you ovulate today on your own?
Gladgonz
06-03-2005, 10:43 AM
Basically with those ovulation kits (pee on a stick). It tells you 24 hours before you ovulate. from what you told me I think you've done the right things but I feel positive about you getting a new Dr. They explain things in details. They moniter you every step of the way.
what city are you from?

Sorry on a past post I said that Motrin causes fertility but I MADE A MISTAKE "MOTRIN CAUSES INFERTILITY"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I used to take it for every little thing and now that I've stopped I think my chances have gotten better.

I am really interested in the monitoring part. My ob keeps saying oh you just need a little more time, hello, it's been over a year, 3 cycles of clomid, I am now 35. I don't think it's time we need. I have the whole summer off, so this would be a good time to start the monitering because I'm available, I am worried about the cost also because our insurance doesn't cover any of this.
Gladgonz
06-03-2005, 11:39 AM
I do have insurance but so far I've only paid out of pocket $40 for the Clomid and $35 for the ovulation kit which has 7 sticks in it.
I think you're right...Ovulation kits are great...it works well if you think that there's nothing really wrong with either you or your spouse....My Husband sperm in quantity is good but they're a little lazy in the swimming department so I hope the IUI helps. He does a son from a previouse marriage.
Let's put it this way...Listen to your heart...You know whats right for you now...no doctor can tell you that you have time..we all want the same thing and the sooner the better. Most fertility clinics have payment plans and try to work with you...I know that I'll be hearing good news from you!!!!!!Try not to worry about it to much...stress can really mess up your body in crazy ways.
I'm a BIG believer of FAITH!!!!!
It doesn't hurt. LOTS OF LOVE TO YOU AND YOURS

Wow that is great, I pay $130 each month to see my ob for my prescription, plus I have to pay for all labs. This new Dr. wants between $100-$300 just to walk in the door, I don't know what makes the difference between $100 and $300. Maybe how we're dressed LOL! I'll say I would like the $100 visit please.

Mydogs: So far I've had a crappy dr. too....I'm just paying big bucks for her.
I did find a really good site for my opk, off the internet, I got 40 for $23.00 or at least I thought I did really good until I found out that clomid makes them give a false +. Sometimes I just have to laugh at all this.

Mydogs: Yes I o on my own, that's why I'm so frustrated, I'm paying my ob $130 a month for clomid, when I don't think I need it. She doesn't do anything else, I have had no monitoring of any kind. I have a 9 yr. old (unplanned) from a previous relationship, my dh has no children.
