Hi girls :hismilie:

This is a great forum BTW...

I was just wondering if you can clear something up for me...aside from the probs it can cause with ovulating, why do docs consider being overweight a problem when conceiving?

You know how docs are they are always go on about losing weight for everything and anything? I've heard that being overweight can hinder getting pregnant because it causes ovulation probs, but is there any other reason that being larger supposed to stop you from conceiving?

I'm overweight myself, and although I ovulate every cycle on my own, we haven't had much luck getting PG. We've been trying a few months now. So apart from ovulation, is there any other reason why doc's say being overweight can stop you getting PG?

Thanks :)

:hismilie: Hi Shellby...The only other thing I have heard of...is that the more fat cells you have...the more BAD estrogen you make...which causes hormonal problems which could cause mis-carriage...and which could make it harder to achieve pregnancy...I think this is also why they want you to be really close to the ideal  weight when you do IVF..because of the dosage problems of the meds.

I've also heard that being overweight raises your chances of developing gestational diabetes as well. I'm not sure if it has any effect on the chances of developing preeclampsia or not I can't remember. I'm in the same boat so I've done a little bit of research. :)

Hi Shelby!

there have been studies that state that over weight women have a hogher risk in miscarriges. Also there's the problem of hyper tension, pregancy type diabites, harder to give birth, low birth weight.

I am approx 50 lbs over weight now, i'm trying to loose atleast 30 lbs before trying IVF again. my BMI is approx 47 and I'm tryin to get it down to atleast 30.

hi there :hismilie:

I just wanted to say, I read in your post that you have only been trying a couple of months but I have been told that sometimes it takes a bit to get pregnant overweight or not and there is only a 20% chance of getting pregnant each cycle. I have heard that if you are below 30 and have tried for a full year with no success then you should see your doctor. I hope that helps and good luck!!
