Just started the clomid/glucophage combo this month, while using the fertility monitor to determine ovulation. I actually ovulated for the first time since last april!! I ovulated on days 21-22 this month! Am doing the obligatory 10 day wait. I can't stand it!! Has anyone out there been successful with this combo on their first cycle? Could use some encouragement. Thanks.

Hi Kelly...I don't have a pregnancy success story (yet), but I have a metgormin (glucophage) success story. :-)
I have PCOS/ insulin resistance, was diagnosed with the PCOS 16 years ago when I was 18 and was diagnosed with the insulin resistance last year. My dr started me on metformin back in October and for the first time in over 10 years I get AF on my own without taking provera or birth control pills. This is very encouraging to me and even though most normal women hate to see AF come, I was thrilled with it because to me it was a sign that things might be starting to work right. So now we have added the clomid. I took one cycle in December which didn't work, but I'm not discouraged at all. Since my body hasn't done what it's supposed to do in over 10 years, I'm not looking for immediate results. But I just finished my second round of clomid (100mg) 2 and a half weeks ago and yesterday morning I got a positive for the LH surge on the ovulation test, so I'm hoping this weekend is the one that works!
I wish you all the best and keep me posted on how things are going with you. Just remember that if the first cycle doesn't do the trick, don't give up. Sometimes our bodies just need a little extra prodding. Take care of you!

I have a great success story for you. I was dx with PCOS and a bicornuate uterus in 1999....now I have 3 children. My oldest is 4 and I have almost 3 yr old b/g twins.
All I have to say is be careful with the metformin/clomid combination because it can make your chances of having multiples a real one. If its what you want, good...if not, well be warned because I got pg with TRIPLETS the first month on clomid/met combination...ended up losing one during the pg and ended up with a very high risk pg (I had to have u/s every 2 weeks to check on the twins...and I had an emergency c-section at 34 weeks because I went into labor...they were going to do a scheduled c-section a few days later because Alexa was failing to thrive as well as she should have...NOW 3 years later she is taller than her brother!)

That's a fantastic story! (although a little scary too). I have realized that chances of a mult preg are increased with clomid, but I will happily take whatever God sees fit to give me! That's amazing that it happened during your first cylcle. I'm still in the 2ww and will test this weekend. I am curious about your sypmoms of pregancy, if you wouldn't mind sharing them. My opk confirmed that I ovulated on days 21-22 this cycle, and I FELT IT! My left ovary area crampy. No spotting. Then at about 9dpo I began having breast tenderness that is still present. 12dpo felt sharp achy sensation in left ovary area (not like AF cramps). Will do hpt at either day 13 or 14dpo to see. Technically I' m now a day late!! Does any of this sound familiar? I hear that the clomid can cause crampy feelings around this time even if your not pregnant. Any input will be appreciated. Good luck and God bless.

Well, just so you know, without met I would go from 35-50 day cycles...when I got pg with the triplets...I felt 'off' very early on. I had been pg before so I knew what it was like...I did a hpt on cd 27 and it came up ++ before the pee went all the way across the board (like 15 seconds or something). I had the breast tenderness...but the met and clomid combination makes that happen even when you aren't pg. I should know...last month there was NO WAY I could remotely be pg (unless I wanted to join the ranks of the Virgin Mary! LOL since dh and I were both sick with the cold the whole month...him the first 2 weeks...me the last 2...so sex went out the window...with 3 yound kids sex isn't first on the list anyhow...ok, ok...TMI!!)
If you are 'technically' a day late, I'd do a hpt...BUT I've had several neg hpts and turned out pg anyhow...with my eldest, I got neg hpts on cd 35, 36 and 37....and on cd 42 it was +++ so don't get discouraged just yet....at least not until the AF lady sings. harharhar.

After 5 years of trying, I am now the mom of a beautiful 5 month old little boy!!! I was diagnosed about 6 years ago, and tried everything from clomid and insiminations to herbs and accupuncture. My recipe for success was as follows:
birth control pills ( Yasmin) for 6 months
Avandia (10 mg/day) starting the first day of the last pack of BCP's
This was strictly my combination. My OB is a doctor at the same hospital I work at, so he would write perscriptions for whatever I wanted to try ( as long as it was safe). We had no money or insurance coverage for IVF, so I got a little creative, and it worked!!! Good luck to everyone trying!!!!

This question is for marie josie.
Did the dr ever give you an explanation as to why you didn't test + until day 42? Late implantation, late ovulation? Did you use a opk, so you would know when you actually ovulated, so you could time it? I'm confused as to why you didn't test + until then. (just got bfn on day 32). Thanks for listening.

The only explanation I got from the doc is that I am one of those women who's hormones don't show up well in urine. It is a well documented fact too...that is why they always state in the HPT directions that if you get a negative and still don't have AF after a week to test again and/or go see a physician.
Oh..by the way, I also required to be put on progesterone so I would have a m/c. I have a history of losing pgs very early on. In fact, I've been pg several times....most pg ended in early mc...except for those that happened while I was taking hormones to help reduce m/c's.
Hope I helped. Don't get discouraged quite yet...it ain't over until the AF lady sings!!

Hi iam currently ttc# 2 with same approach as before. I delivered my first baby 2/13/04 without much medical intervention. My story started about 9 years ago when i became pregnant for the first time sadly i m/c at only 14 weeks. two years later i became pg again on my own and m/c at 18 weeks. then i under went alot of testing and ttc again for almost four years until i became pg again in 1999 with a m/c at 16 weeks. Of course i was devistated i had and lapro, hsg, 6 clomid cycles , metformin, and weirdly enough all my pg were concieved on a break.
My m/c's were unknown causes at the time. Then i divorced in 2003 and had just began a new relationship with my great friend. I was not focusing on ttc just enjoying myself. I went on low carb diet do try and regulate my periods i had missed 6 months at a time sometimes. Well we got together in march 2003 i lost about 20lbs i had regular periods on mar-may. Then june no period then july. I took hpt on 1st of july which was - then i retested on 8 of july which was also -- i went to scheduled ob appointment of july 15th for which he was starting metformin again and scheduling ovarian drilling surgery, but he did beta hcg first and it came back ove 27,000 i was pregnant!! It was confirmed I was 8 weeks with ultrasound. I had a pretty eventful pregnancy with spotting, kidney stones, gest diabetes , lots of bed rest and the list could go on and on i had genetic workup done during my pg and lucky i did they found the cause of my past m/c i have a clotting disorder known and mthfr i had to take lovenox injections daily but on feb 13th 2004 my son Zachary made an enterance a 6lb 8 oz. I owe my success to weight loss which in turn helped with IR and my cycles. Of course iam sure some of you have done just that without any luck yet , but my best advise to you is try and relax (which is hard believe me i know first hand) and once you achieve getting your cycles in control if there are no other known factors in the way just concentrate on you timing. Remember a healthy fertile person still has only about 25% chance of conception each cycle.. good luck to everyone
I am now ttc #2 iam currently down 6lbs, taking metformin 1000mg and watching for signs of ovulation. I wish everyone the best.

Hello Zacharysmom and marie josee:
That is really strange that neither of you have tested + with hpt's. I must say that although that thought comforts me, I'm finding myself taking too much comfort in it (if you know what I mean). Still no sign of AF, if I don't get a visit by Friday, I guess I'll retest. I keep saying to myself "what are the odds that you would be one of those types of people? Don't be crazy!" But a large part of me wants desperately to be that crazy. Did either of you use an opk? Were you able to tell when you were ovulating, and could time implantation results? I feel like, no matter when you ovulate (early or late) as long as you know when your peak days were, you should be able to count out 10-14 days after ovulation to time a test. (unless you don't show + with hpt's). I don't know. Any feedback is always appreciated. Thanks ladies.

I tried to use OPK's but never got good results...obviously I was able to ovulate on met since I got pg with triplets and it was later found out (because of u/s) that I probably had a doulbe ovulation that month...meaning I ovulated twice, one week apart. Its the only way the doc could explain why my dd Alexa (I kept tabs on who was who) was ALWAYS one week behind according to u/s....and my first u/s was done at 7wks.

Hi Girls...this post is giving me so much hope!!!! I am on cd 32 with no signs of AF in sight but when I tested on cd 30 and 31 I got a BFN. But I don't think I ovulated until cd 17 or 18 so I'm wondering if I tested too soon. Anyway, just wanted to thank you for the encouragement.

Hey girls about the OPK i never really had any luck with them.. i think i just had very untypical cycles. I usually ovulated late. I tried monitoring my bbt and cervical fluid changes. I also attempted to do the cervical position check but didnt quiet get the hang of it ..lol :D I really concentrated on learning my body and signs for ovulation. I wish you all the best of luck ill keep you posted if i find something that works better for me. I am currently trying to explain all this infertility with my sister-inlaw who was recently diagnosed with PCOS as well and has battled infertility for 6 years.. Good luck and lots of :stickyvib

Hi Amy...I'm not sure what the stats are on first time clomid success, but I DO know it happens. You didn't mention what your diagnosis is. Are you on metformin or glucophage? If you are insulin resistant, there has been a great deal of success with the metformin/clomid combination. Don't get discouraged if the first round of clomid doesn't work. Sometimes it takes a few cycles to find out what dosage you respond to the best. 50mg is the usual starting out dosage but it may take 100 or 150mg to get your ovaries in gear. But you don't want to over stimulate so that's why it's best to start out at the smallest dosage and work your way up to whatever works for you. But ya never know, 50mg might be just what you need. Take care and keep us posted.

Sorry! I should have mentioned that before! My bad:blush:
My diagnosis is PCOS. The doc just put me on clomid for now. She says we will try that first and see what happens. I havent had AF for um.....2 years. I took bcp for 2 years before, but then went off so my body would be "cleansed" of it, so when I got married (6 months ago to my darling husband:kiss: ) we could have a baby.:crossfing
But since I keep track of my temperatures, I know I am not ovulating, and finally being So fed up with myself for "not being normal":banghead: we decided to do some research and try something. After several tests, probings, and stickings from those dreaded docs, she said that clomid should work.
Ugh, even though we havent been ttc for a very long time, I hate the waiting process...ugh! talk about trying to teach us some patience :nono: :fuming: (which I have none!) hats why I was inquiring. I have to wait for the provera to work its course, then take the clomid, and then the dreaded 2ww, praying and hoping, and wishing! blah! So thats my story! Good luck with everyone, and if anyone still has any success stories...send em my way! Thanks a bunch!!!:grouphug:

Ok...here is what happened with me...clomid didn't work on its own!! The ONLY way I was able to get pg was to get my insulin under control (ie. get the PCOS under control). I didn't know it at the time, but when I got pg with my oldest dd Catherine, I didn't take an met...BUT I had been exercising and losing weight using the Somersizing program...a LOT like South Beach by the way. I had lost 25 lbs...and got pg along the way (UNEXPECTED Too!!)
With the twins, I got pg with met and clomid combined..although it wasn't the original intention...LONG story...too long to tell.
Good luck

I struggled with PCOS for 5 years before I found what worked for me. We tried everything from Clomid, IUI's, herbs, Glucophage, etc... Nothing worked, so I came up with my own plan and fortunately, I have an OB who is willing to let me do my own thing. I took birth control pills ( Yasmin) for about 6 months. At the start of the 6th month, I added Avandia 10 mg per day for that month. That is where the science stops. I intended to take the Avandia longer, but didn't get around to getting it re-filled, and believe it or not, I ovulated for the first time in I don't know how long and got pregnant. The funny thing is, I had a textbook cycle- Ovulated on day 14. My little Ethan came last August. I had taken Avandia before, and it truely is the only medication that made me feel better. I'm pretty atypical- 5'5 and 118 pounds- never have a period on my own. I hope this helps.

Wow, thats amazing Alysia! Well, in case you all need an update, clomid didnt work the first round ....or the second round in that fact for me. But I am on my third round at cd8 and I am already feeling some *maybe* pains, and the two before I did not feel. I dont know, I just hope I get pg! lol!!
